Career Development Self-Assessments

The challenge for any professional is to recognize when new competencies need to be learned — and to make sure core competencies continue to meet the current needs of the marketplace. AHIMA developed self-assessments to help you identify and target your professional and educational needs as they relate to the following roles:

   

The AHIMA Career Development Self-Assessments enable you to assess your proficiencies in various roles and through a personalized gap analysis:

  • Identify learning opportunities to improve your skills and increase your worth
  • Identify where growth is needed
  • Gain insights and strategies to plan a new career or make a career move

Assess Competencies
Each self-assessment has multiple competency categories. Within each category, you will review knowledge and skills and will determine your current proficiency level.

Feedback and Resources
After completing each category, we present feedback, which will indicate your assessed level. The feedback will also include a list of resources which are recommended to help you develop or continue developing skills for a desired role. Recourses include full citations in print-friendly formats.

After completing all categories in a self-assessment, you will be presented with additional feedback which will indicate your overall current proficiency level, with some additional resource suggestions.

Prerequisites: None
Textbook: None required.
Credits:    Upon completion each self-assessment, one (1) CEU is earned.

*Enrollment is determined by receipt of payment. If an order is submitted online with a credit card, enrollment occurs immediately after the order is submitted. A clinical vocabulary manager is responsible for maintaining terminologies, validation files, and maps for a variety of use cases used in the EHR. The manager will also perform ongoing review of the auto and manual encoder systems for terminology and classification systems, including methods and processes, and implement recommendations for improving and optimizing the encoding process.

The work flow data analyst understands operations and requirements at all levels in a healthcare setting that rely on the electronic health record. This role has the ability to analyze the organization's operations to determine how work and data flows through an organization and is impacted by the electronic health record (EHR). They assist to implement an automated process, analyze results, oversee multidisciplinary reengineering, and evaluate outcomes and quality. The work flow data analyst also works with the EHR data files and structure.

A coding manger is responsible for overseeing personnel and operational management of the Coding Unit. The general responsibilities consists of, but not limited to, the management of processes and overall supervision in the coding area in a manner that is efficient and compliant with regulatory guidelines, plans and monitors quality and productivity, establishes coding quality reviews to maintain high accuracy and compliance, and serves as a resource and liaison in the organization for all coding related topics, issues, and questions.
