Books required for each cluster are listed below.
IMPORTANT! It's best to order required books 2 to 3 weeks before activating your class(es) and beginning the coursework. Do not order any of your books months in advance!
If you ordered all the books for the full program at the
beginning, some editions would be out-of-date by the time you needed to use
them. Every year in the early fall, the books and course content for the
Basic ICD-9-CM Coding class change with the annual code updates. At the beginning
of each year, the books and courses for Basic CPT Coding are also updated
. (It is each student's responsibility to make sure the course assigned to
them matches the ICD-9-CM and CPT books they've purchased. If they don't
match, the student must notify coding.basics@ahima.org before
completing any coursework.) Any student who takes an extended break
between courses/clusters may find that the class that uses the book edition
they originally purchased is no longer available; in that
case, the student will be required to purchase the newer edition.
All required
books can be purchased directly from AHIMA*. First, download the PDF Order Form and select your book(s). Next, submit the book order in one of three ways:
- If you have a valid credit card, order your books by phone at (800) 335-5535.
- If you have a valid credit card or purchase order (P.O.), you can also submit the order by fax. Please be careful to fill out all the required information.
- If paying by check, submit the order and payment by mail. (If mailing an order, you may also choose to pay by credit card or P.O.) Be careful to fill out all the required information and include the actual check or purchase order. We highly recommend keeping a copy of the order for your own records!
* You may obtain books from other sources, but verify
you are purchasing the correct edition by making sure you match the ISBN number.
Be sure to add applicable sales tax and shipping & handling
charges to your order. The prices indicated below do not include tax or shipping.
Student membership, available to most Coding Basics
