Rely on us to work with you. The three courses in AHIMA's e-HIM program put you at the forefront of knowledge when it comes to the exciting new world of electronic health information management. e-HIM® Analysis of Case Studies
(online course)

As close as you can come to actual application of sound principles and best practices to e-HIM. In the course, you'll be provided with case studies and all the background materials you'll need to determine actions a real professional might take in a given situation. The course continues online through a lively exchange of ideas and information via threaded discussions. Each case study lasts for two weeks.

This course is intended for professionals involved in or interested in the successful acquisition and implementation of information technology to improve operations in their organizations.

Prerequisites: None

Credits:    An AHIMA Certificate of Completion and 4 CEUs will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

e-HIM® Conversational IT
(online course)

Become fluent in the language of Information Technology (IT) so you can communicate intelligently with IT professionals!

The goal of the course is to educate HIM professionals so they can interact effectively with their Information Technology (IT) counterparts. This will be accomplished by:

  • Introducing IT vocabulary terms
  • Contextual review of IT terms in selected readings
  • Class discussions. Class will be given a limited number of discussion questions to address
  • Critique and discuss an RFP for a digital dictation system
  • Interview with an IT professional. Class will be given a limited number of discussion questions to address in interviews with IT professionals
  • Assessment of IT vocabulary terms

This course is intended for HIM professionals and others who wish to become comfortable and conversant in information technology business discussions.

e-HIM® Project Management for IT
(online course)

This online course introduces participants to the terminology, processes, and tools of Project Management for Information Technology (IT) to enhance their ability to understand "best practices" in Project Management and contribute as a project sponsor, manager, or participant. The course consists of four modules to be completed over a five-week period. Each module will include:

  • Text readings
  • Instructor notes to enhance the readings
  • Case Study Learning Activity
  • Evaluation - Self-Assessment Test

This course is intended for professionals and students involved or interested in how projects are initiated, planned, executed, controlled, and closed-out to optimize both the success of the project in terms of time, cost, and functionality and the attainment of the project goals and objectives.

Also note – This course is associated with a face-to-face "Project Management for IT Institute" that is held each year in conjunction with the AHIMA annual convention in the Fall. As of October, 2006, registration for the web-based course does NOT include institute registration.
