AHIMA is developing an e-HIM^® Virtual Laboratory that will provide educators and students in campus-based and distance learning colleges and universities with single site, virtual access to a full array of health information management technologies.

AHIMA has recognized the importance of technology training for health information management students, as well as the difficulty programs face in making the technology available to their students. Developed in partnership with health information technology software corporations, the Virtual Lab will allow students to work with the software they will encounter in the workplace, in a safe environment that closely simulates real world application of those technologies.

Training documentation will assist educators and students as they explore the applications. Lab exercises will emphasize the acquisition of skills related to the use of electronic tools to solve problems and make decisions, thus enabling today's students to become the leaders of tomorrow's HIM workforce.
